Strangulated obstruction of small bowel with necrosis



The small bowel group (black arrow) of Fig.2-Fig.9 which is distended with liquid contents indicates mechanical obstruction because cecum (Ce) contains feces without liquid. There is massive ascites (reference mark) in Fig.1-Fig.3. In comparison with the wall of viable small bowel group (white arrowheads of Fig.1), the contrast-enhancement of small intestinal wall (black arrow) is obviously diminished indicating necrotic bowels. Surgery confirmed strangulated necrotic small bowel of 100cm length (Fig. A) caused by an adhesive band.
